Our Trust of Schools

Excellent, fun, practical and engaging session, rooted in research that set a strong foundation for the start of placement B this week.

We kicked off the first week with Simon Weir, Director of Inclusion, for our first SWTT General Professional Studies session of 2026.

Simon led us in revisiting our Trust version of the Bronfenbrenner model, focusing on the meta- and microsystems, to help ground our understanding ahead of upcoming re-regulation training.

We explored Dr Dan Siegel’s work on the teenage brain, particularly the relationship between the prefrontal cortex and the limbic system, and how this impacts behaviour, decision-making and emotional regulation in young people.

Through a range of classroom scenarios, our wonderful trainees had time to script and deliberately practise responses, focusing on how to spot early warning signs that a student may be close to “flipping their lid”. Using a number of Trust strategies, The team reflected on how we can Gently intervene early to support regulation and maintain safe, inclusive learning environments. ( this also Echoed our ITAP work on least invasive interventions)

One highlight was the use of the balloon demonstration (see photos), a powerful visual reminder of just how close to the edge some of our students may already be when they arrive in our classrooms.

Another excellent, fun, practical and engaging session, rooted in research that set a strong foundation for the start of placement B this week.

Thanks Simon
