SWTT - ITAP2 ITAP2 ITAP2 (Intensive Training and Practice ) Torquay Academy

ITAP at Torquay Academy continues to set the standard
Some might say TA were the South west original adopters and developers of the booklet model, pioneers of visualisers, and the undisputed kings and queens of modelling.
As part of ITAP2, we focus heavily on adaptive teaching with a strong emphasis on managing cognitive load. We use a range of techniques to support this, most notably modelling, dual coding, and explicit exposition/instruction.
Now in its fourth year, Reece Broome once again delivered an outstanding session on the intricacies of “I do, we do, you do.” Defining success to manage that cognitive load. He emphasised the importance of taking time to perfect each step in order to build confidence. He carefully guide our trainees through the skill of the gradual release of responsibility.
We explored how many “you do” opportunities pupils really need and reflected on how powerful this approach is, particularly for our students with SEND.
I was incredibly proud to see a room full of trainees confidently jumping up to do the deliberate practise and delivering subject-specific, well-developed I do, we do, you do sequences to their peers. This year’s cohort demonstrated the strongest application of deliberate practice we have seen.
Thank you Team TA and our inspirational welcome from Steve Margetts.
Thank you to my cohort of SWTT trainees for being ACE. Now they will be going into their schools and preping model answer, breaking down the steps of the 'I do' and meeting the needs of 100’s of SEND children in their classroom with this clear instruction and modelling. So so proud.
Thank you to Elizabeth Treglown Ryan facilitating our day.
