Educating young people, outdoors in a forest environment, 100% of the time!

The outdoor Group share their insight in educating young people, outdoors in a forest environment, 100% of the time!

Before half term, we were absolutely thrilled to open our doors and warmly welcome Beverley Garland and her dedicated team from the Outdoor Group. We were keen to hear about other curriculum models and approaches we may not have seen in our current placement schools. They did not disappoint!

This specialist provision — educating young people fully outdoors in a forest environment, 100% of the time — shared powerful insights into their practice. From navigating EHCPs to embedding grounding techniques, they walked us through how they carefully prepare pupils for the transition from drop-off outdoors into their learning spaces beneath the canopies.

It was a fascinating deep dive into the world of specialist settings — thoughtful, relational and rooted in deep understanding of children who find the traditional classroom environment challenging.

Our trainees left with practical strategies to support regulation, smoother transitions and meaningful engagement for pupils who need something different to thrive. Many of our trainees are looking for roles in schools with AP’s and want excellent skills they have for this pathway too .

A huge thank you to the team for such a generous, insightful session. We learnt so much — and we are better for it.
